My book (translated into Korean) is out and will be available for purchase online on May 4 and in bookstores on May 10. The book is titled, From a Pilgrim to a Pilgrim, in Korean. It is my attempt to integrate my missional journey with my contemplative leanings, weaving my personal stories and experiences. I am excited, fearful, and curious. #freeasthesky #순례자가순례자에게 #순례자 #joybooks #조이북스 #spirituality
One of the charms and perks of living in the city is to walk everywhere and discover a gem cafe like this. Their name suggests that they devote high dedication to a cup of coffee. I respect that. We came here so often this week that we “befriended” a girl who works here and she out of her kind heart offered a free cup of cappuccino.
“To live well myself is my first and essential contribution to the well-being of all mankind.” #thomasmerton
Missing this girl of mine! “. . . the universe is my home and I am nothing if not part of it. . . Can I find true being in God who has willed me to exist in the world?” #thomasmerton
“The dominant consciousness must be radically criticized and the dominant community must be finally dismantled. The purpose of an alternative community with an alternative consciousness is for the sake of that criticism and dismantling.” #walterbrueggemann
“My silence is part of the whole world’s silence and builds the temple of God without the noise of hammers.” #thomasmerton #silence
“In the last analysis what I am looking for in solitude is not happiness or fulfillment but salvation. Not ‘my own’ salvation, but the salvation of everybody.” #thomasmerton #solitude
“Good Shepherd, You have a wild and crazy sheep in love with thorns and brambles. But please don’t get tired of looking for me! I know You won’t. For You have found me. All I have to do is stay found.” Thomas Merton
“You don’t think your way into a new kind of living but live your way into a new kind of thinking.” Henri Nouwen
“I believe Paul and his school teach that sin shows itself as social, cultural, or historical entrapment, cultural blindness, or bondage, along with personal complicity with such delusions.” Richard Rohr
The year 2020 is a sabbath year with every day as a gift! One thing I’m “doing” is writing. I launched my blog called free as the sky with fresh entries every Tuesdays. Freeasthesky.com. Let me know what you think.
Missing this child of mine! “True belonging is hospitable to difference. . . There can be no true self without the embrace of the other.” John O’Donohue
1/1/20 epic sunset. “The ‘union that already exists’ is the true self concealed by sin. It is our personhood, our very existence as a created capacity for perfect union with God.” James Finley
“Love is the epiphany of God in our poverty.” Thomas Merton “By our love and our need for love we become for one another midwives of the true self.” James Finley
My beauty Belle & the beast! “For God to be is to give being, and for man to be is to receive being.” Meister Eckhart “Our true self is a received self.” James Finley
“God, who owns all things, leaves them all to themselves. He never takes them for His own . . . He saw that all things were good, and He did not enjoy them. He saw that all things were beautiful and He did not want them. His love is not like ours. His love is unpossessive. His love is pure because it needs nothing. . . God is His own law and the law of all things is in His freedom. Therefore the stars serve Him freely and the sun rises with a song of joy and the clean gentle speechless moon goes down to her bed without protest.” Thomas Merton
